Overview
Fraction Face-Off! (FFO) is a small-group Tier 2 intervention designed to promote fraction understanding for students with math difficulty. This intervention was previously identified by the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC, 2020) as an intervention that may increase student achievement in geometry and measurement, number and operations, and general mathematics achievement as outlined in this Fraction Face-Off! Intervention Brief.
Purpose
This training is designed to prepare you to teach the Fraction Face-Off Intervention. We will begin this series of trainings by discussing the overarching content of the Fraction Face-Off intervention, the theoretical components for teaching fractions according to best practices for students who are struggling, and discuss the evidence base of the Fraction Face-Off intervention. This information can be found in the Content and Pedagogy portion of the training. The remaining sections will be for a group of six sequential lessons in the Fraction Face-Off curriculum. In each of these sections, we will review individual lessons, including the materials needed and model new content that the lesson includes.
Before starting to teach Fraction Face Off Lesson 1, you need to complete the Content and Pedagogy portion of this training. Once that is complete, the Just in Time Lesson 1-6 will be accessible.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you will:
- understand the Fraction Face-Off! Intervention design and purpose of the research study.
- understand FFO lesson design and concepts.
- understand managing FFO logistics of implementation.
- understand the content taught within each FFO lesson.
- prepare for the implementation of each FFO lesson.
